Apex
Plaza refurbishment
Rentokil
Tropical Plants UK has recently completed the installation
of new plants at the refurbished Apex Plaza office building
on Forbury Road in Reading, in the South of England.
The two-day installation
was merely the end of a process that began six months earlier
when the eight palm trees were selected from their nursery
in Florida. They started their epic journey across the
Atlantic by spending three weeks at sea. They were then
acclimatized to their new environment for four months in Rentokil's
purpose-built premises near Bath.
It took ten people
and special materials handling equipment to install the palms,
which each weighed over a tonne. Over nine tonnes of
soil and four tonnes of top dressing materials were also used.
As well as the huge
palms, the atrium has four formal planting beds, planted with
a selection of plants, chosen to give the atrium a modern,
minimalistic feel.
